Scientific Consultation Service

Austin Davis offers consultation services, providing expert advice, specialised knowledge, and technical assistance across various scientific and technical disciplines to companies, organisations and educational institutions.

Professor Paul Davis is responsible for providing ADB’s consultation services. With more than six decades of experience in immunology and diagnostic technologies spanning all formats of immunoassay, his services include technical advice, device development, and R&D support, helping clients to develop innovations, improve research quality, and bring products to market with greater confidence and efficiency.

Paul's professional history

Although Paul has officially retired from entrepreneurial activities, he is taking the opportunity to advise and innovate with a variety of research groups and companies, with the aim of making available his experience from 6 decades of work in scientific research and entrepreneurship. Five of these were in applied immunology, immunoassay, biomarkers and wound care.

Exploratory research and innovation in Unilever Research between 1965 and 2002 gave great opportunities to engage in background research and/or product development. During those decades  he worked on oral parasite vaccines, immunoassay techniques, allergy and diagnostics. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the invention of lateral flow immunoassay technology, which made possible the first user-friendly pregnancy tests, ClearBlue original and ClearBlue one-step, in the 1980s—a technology he continues to develop today.

Since 2002, Paul has been active as a life-sciences entrepreneur while maintaining close connections with academic science. He has held four visiting professorships (University of Kent, 1998–present; University of Warwick, 2001–2022; University of Cardiff, 2010–2014; University of Exeter, 2003–2010) and spent several years as a visiting fellow in Biochemical Engineering at UCL. As an entrepreneur he founded or co-founded Mologic (now Global Access Diagnostics) , Inscentinel, Insense, Arecor (now Arecor Therapeutics PLC), Archimed, Austin Davis Biologics and Creonate Manufacturing.

Contract Research

The Austin Davis Biologics team of scientists is a highly qualified group of experts providing a unique diagnostic service for horse owners.  In addition, members of the team have provided expert R&D services to other companies, as well as joint research activities with academic institutes etc. So our consultation service can also extend to contract research in areas in which we have relevant expertise.
